Congrats on getting your braces on!
Protecting your lips & cheeks:
At the beginning, it is very easy for your cheek and lips to get cut by the braces. We will give you wax -> please put this on any sharp areas of the mouth. After about 1-2 months of braces, your mouth will get used to braces and is way less likely to cut yourself on them.
Soreness:
Your teeth can be pretty sore with braces. You can take over the counter pain medicine. If extreme pain -> come back for an appointment. The soreness usually only last 2-3 days after each adjustment.
Cavities:
The rate of getting cavities with braces is 3-4 times higher than without braces. You do not want to get straight decayed teeth. You want straight beautiful looking teeth. Make sure to brush you teeth 3 times a day with braces each time for 3 minutes at a time, floss twice a day, and use mouth wash.
Eating:
Eating is going to be a little more difficult. After adjustments or when you are sore -> eat soft foods. Be careful eating any hard foods -> these can cause brackets to break off.
Breaking brackets:
If brackets fall off, come back asap to our clinic to have them replaced. Have a broken bracket can cause the teeth to move incorrectly.
Adjustments:
Make sure to come in every month for adjustments. Braces are done expecting patients to return every 4 weeks. If you miss appointments, the teeth could over move and cause problems in the future.
Poking Wire/Loose Wire:
If you have a poking wire or loose wire -> just call the office and come back and we can fix it.
