What is the process of braces removal

Removing braces is an exciting milestone in your orthodontic journey. At The Smile Mission, the team ensures that the process is efficient, painless, and focused on maintaining your beautiful results.
1. Initial Consultation & Confirmation
Before removal, the orthodontist will:
-
Evaluate your teeth alignment.
-
Take final X-rays or scans (if needed).
-
Confirm that your teeth and bite have reached the desired alignment.
-
Walk you through the removal process and what to expect post-removal.
2. Consent & Removal Agreement
You’ll be asked to sign a braces removal agreement form, which:
-
Confirms your understanding of the process.
-
States that you agree to have the braces removed.
-
Acknowledges the responsibility of wearing retainers post-removal to maintain your results.
3. Bracket Removal
-
A special tool is used to gently clip and remove the brackets and wires.
-
This step is quick and usually painless, although you may feel slight pressure or popping sensations.
4. Adhesive Removal & Tooth Cleaning
-
Once the brackets are off, there will be some dental adhesive (glue) left on your teeth.
-
The dentist uses a painless polishing tool to clean this residue and smooth your enamel.
-
Afterward, your teeth are cleaned and polished to remove plaque and make them shine.
5. Retainer Fitting
-
A custom retainer is created to maintain your teeth’s new position.
-
You may get a removable retainer or a fixed (bonded) retainer based on your specific case.
-
Instructions are provided on how and when to wear the retainer to avoid shifting.
6. Post-Removal Care Instructions
The Smile Mission team will guide you on:
-
Retainer hygiene and wear schedule.
-
Tips for easing into your new bite.
-
Scheduling follow-up visits to monitor retention progress.
7. Celebrate Your New Smile! 🎉
Many patients take this opportunity to:
-
Whiten their teeth (optional).
-
Take “after” photos to compare with the beginning of their journey.
-
Enjoy sticky or crunchy foods they avoided during treatment—carefully, of course!
8. Real Patient Experience
The process is fast—most removals take about 30 to 45 minutes. Patients often describe it as “odd but not painful,” and the final reveal is well worth it!
